Main Street Autonomy Provides Auve Tech Autonomous Shuttles with Automatic Sensor Calibration Solution
PITTSBURGH, PA – October 7, 2024 – Main Street Autonomy, LLC (MSA), a robotics software and solution provider, announces a strategic partnership with Auve Tech OÜ (Auve), providing automatic sensor calibration for Auve’s fleet of “MiCa” L4 autonomous shuttle buses.
Auve Tech has integrated MSA’s calibration of multiple lidar, camera, IMU, wheel encoders, and GPS/GNSS sensors into left-hand drive and right-hand drive versions of MiCa. “Main Street Autonomy is an important component of our plans to scale vehicle deployments worldwide – Japan, USA, Europe and Middle East,” said Andreas Rebane, Board Member and Head of Development at Auve. “Their fast and accurate calibration is a key component to how we can provide field maintenance for vehicles without requiring changes to the physical world, shipping engineers, or materials.”

Ott Männik, Software Lead at Auve, added “The strategic partnership has expedited our technical roadmap by 12 to 16 months. Working with MSA has been fruitful thanks to their technical competence and flexibility. Their experience in robotics has helped us overcome technical challenges and saved us development time. Accurate multi-modal calibrations are a cornerstone to enable more advanced autonomy features and provide a safer and smoother ride for our passengers.”
MSA's Calibration Anywhere software automates the cross-modal calibration process for perception sensors. Using only sensor data captured in any environment, the software generates 6DoF extrinsics relative to base_link, camera intrinsics, wheel encoder intrinsics, and time offsets for perception sensors.
“MiCa is an innovative autonomous vehicle,” said William Sitch, Chief Business Officer at MSA. “What Auve has achieved in such a short time is impressive – their vehicles are already part of the Japanese transport system, with people using them for their daily commute. Auve owns all aspects of development—mechanical and electrical design, manufacturing, and software—and their expertise is apparent.”
